Our Story

“Bringing out the best in every child”

Overview

KidzCare primarily reaches out to primary and secondary school students living in Chai Chee and surrounding neighbourhoods. Since our founding in 2013, we have worked with over 200 children and youths, and benefited from the help of more than 100 volunteers and partnerships with over 30 organizations. KidzCare is a non-profit initiative driven by volunteers. KidzCare runs a series of free programmes for children and youth who may require additional support. Our mission is to ensure every child is given the opportunities to succeed in life, regardless of family background and household resources.

Who we help

KidzCare serves children and youth living in Chai Chee and nearby areas, particularly those living in public rental flats. We aim to ensure every child has the opportunities to succeed regardless of financial status, family situation, or other personal challenges.

What we do

KidzCare provides holistic developmental support to our beneficiaries. We have academic programmes (e.g. tuition, tutoring, reading), enrichment programmes (e.g. digital skills, sports, excursions), and character development programmes (e.g. community service).

Mission

Giving every child the chance to succeed

How we started

It all began with a group of children loitering around void decks even till late at night… We started KidzCare 9 years ago when we noticed many parents living in the rental flats are unable to provide the guidance which the children need in their formative years. Children are loitering around void decks even till late at night, which makes them vulnerable to negative influences from older youths, some children do not even go to school and financial constraints also limit their opportunities. Through interaction, we feel that there is a need for us to intervene and help the children. We noticed many older children cannot even understand simple English and many children actually retain in their primary levels. We garnered a few friends and started KidzCare with the objective to provide additional support to these children in this neighbourhood.

Over years, KidzCare has grown from a humble beginning with a few foldable chairs and tables borrowed from the nearby senior activity center to place at the open pavilion where “Homework Club” took place to air-conditioned classrooms. Our goal of reaching out to and remaining embedded in the community has remained constant. We are committed to actively reaching out to more children through house visits, referrals and other outreach events.

Our Logo

Our KidzCare logo is chosen by our children. This logo design is adapted from our previous logo which portrays an adult holding the hands of a child. The 2 children in our new KidzCare logo are illustrated as if they are running on a field, this is to portray the playful and youthful nature of children during play. The child on the right has a heart logo above his hand which represents KidzCare’s role, to provide ‘Care & Love’ to the children. The use of soft and soothing pastel colours in the logo is to evoke a sense of openness and relaxation as well as to amplify the youthful characteristics of Children. The saturation of the red hue has been tone down as compared to the earlier versions to complement the pastel colours of the logo.
